Beyonce has shared a personal open letter with fans following her 40th birthday, explaining that she feels the best that she has ever felt.

The world united in celebration earlier this month for the Halo singer’s milestone birthday, with fans and famous pals alike sending her good wishes.

In a heartwarming handwritten message on her website, the mum-of-three thanked everyone for their thoughtful posts, and discussed the ‘freedom’ she now feels.

‘As Virgo Season comes to an end, I hope my fellow Virgos had great birthdays,’ she began. ‘I’m so thankful for every inspiring human who took the time to send me all the beautiful messages.

‘I cried tears of joy and was covered in chilly bumps. Your videos, your posts, your countdowns, your playlists and your well wishes, I will cherish forever.

‘I’m grateful to everyone involved, especially the fans, for the time and level of detail it took to organise such beautiful tributes. I admire and respect all of you and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

‘This is the first year that I really understand what it means to be alive and to live in the moment. It’s the first time that I have an understanding of how fragile life truly is, how hard life can be at times, and therefore how important it is to stop and smell the roses during the good times.’

‘I thought I knew that at 21 or 30…but I didn’t. The more mature I become, the more I understand and the deeper my joy grows,’ she continued. ‘There’s a freedom and liberation knowing that I’ve made it to the other side of my sacrifice. I’m finally giving myself permission to enjoy the seeds I’ve worked so hard to plant my whole life.’

‘Whoever tried to condition women to feel that we are supposed to feel old or unhappy when we turn 40 got it ALL THE WAY F’d UP. This has absolutely been the best I’ve felt in my life. I’m so grateful to be GROWN, GROWN!

‘Most of y’all met me when I was 15, and we have grown up together. You bring sooooo much joy into my life. I hope my art can continue to bring a little joy into yours.’

In true Bey style, she signed the letter off with ‘I love you’, followed by the word ‘deep’ 40 times, and a little drawing of a bee.

We expect absolutely nothing less.

The superstar has been in the industry since the 1990s, exploding on to the scene with her Destiny’s Child bandmates before forging an insanely successful solo career.

However, she has notably made it a point to keep her private life mostly separate, keeping her marriage with Jay-Z, and children Blue Ivy, Rumi and Sir under wraps.

In a candid chat with Harper’s Bazaar, she recently lifted the lid on the boundaries she set for herself throughout her time in the limelight, revealing how ‘grateful’ she is to ‘have the ability to choose what I want to share’ with the world.

‘Throughout my career, I’ve been intentional about setting boundaries between my stage persona and my personal life. My family and friends often forget the side of me that is the beast in stilettos until they are watching me perform. It can be easy to lose yourself very quickly in this industry,’ she said.

‘It takes your spirit and light, then spits you out. I’ve seen it countless times, not only with celebrities but also producers, directors, executives, etc. It’s not for everyone. Before I started, I decided that I’d only pursue this career if my self-worth was dependent on more than celebrity success.

‘I’ve surrounded myself with honest people who I admire, who have their own lives and dreams and are not dependent on me. People I can grow and learn from and vice versa. In this business, so much of your life does not belong to you unless you fight for it. I’ve fought to protect my sanity and my privacy because the quality of my life depended on it.

‘A lot of who I am is reserved for the people I love and trust. Those who don’t know me and have never met me might interpret that as being closed off. Trust, the reason those folks don’t see certain things about me is because my Virgo ass does not want them to see it….It’s not because it doesn’t exist!’
