Dizzee Rascal has denied assaulting his former girlfriend at a home in south London this summer.

The 36-year-old entered a plea of not guilty to assault by beating at Croydon Magistrates’ Court today, after being arrested in June.

Dizzee, real name Dylan Mills, denied ‘pushing his head into’ Cassandra Jones and ‘pushing her to the floor’ at a residential property in Streatham on June 8, Croydon Magistrates’ Court heard.

His defence lawyer, Iskander Fernandez, said the rapper ‘denies pushing his head into the complainant’s head and denies pushing her to the floor’.

Dizzee Rascal’s manager, who ‘received a phone call when the altercation took place’ will give evidence at the trial, along with his ex-girlfriend’s mother, Dawn Kirk, the court heard.

Mills, of Sevenoaks in Kent, has been released on conditional bail and will return to Croydon Magistrates’ Court for his trial on February 18 2021

The Fix Up Look Sharp rapper was dressed in a dark grey suit, a white shirt and a tie for his appearance, and was seen speaking on the phone prior to entering the court.

‘Officers attended and a woman reported minor injuries. She did not require hospital treatment.’

Mills was 18 when his debut, Boy in da Corner, was released in 2003, with the album going on to become one of the year’s most acclaimed albums and winning the Mercury Prize.

Since then, he has released a further six albums, including 2020’s E3 AF, and achieved three consecutive number ones with Dance Wiv Me with Calvin Harris, Bonkers with Armand Van Helden, and Holiday featuring Chrome.

Mills was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2020 Birthday Honours for services to music.
