Jason Manford won’t be walking ‘for a little bit’ after undergoing surgery on his ankles.

The comedian shared updates from hospital as he informed fans he was getting an operation on both his ankles.

The 40-year-old posted a picture of himself in his hospital bed, while he was also on the room’s TV screen as Unbeatable aired on BBC One.

Jason wrote: ‘Surreal moment while I’m waiting for my ankles operation! Glad there’s some #Unbeatable entertainment on @BBCOne keeping me company.’

He then shared a picture of his feet poking out from under the blanket with arrows drawn on each foot, pointing towards his ankles.

He wrote: ’Always a worry when they’ve gotta use a sharpie so they know which one to do! I’m having both  I almost asked him to write ‘not these’ on my knees.’

The Manchester comic didn’t confirm exactly what he was getting done, even joking he was ‘getting my t*ts done’ in response to one fan.

However, when a follower asked if he’d be able to walk after his operation, Jason tweeted: ‘No walking for a little bit, don’t think I’ll make SoccerAid this year!’

Jason previously played on the World XI team alongside stars including Mo Gilligan, Iain Stirling, Dermot Kennedy and Roman Kemp in the 2020 Soccer Aid event, winning on penalties against the England team captained by Olly Murs.

Not only will Jason need to be back on his feet for any sporting endeavours, the father-of-six will also be hoping to be back on the stage this year.

Jason’s live stand-up shows for his Like Me tour from June 2021 have been rescheduled to begin in August, with dates running until next November.

Explaining the delay in dates, he said: ‘Completely heartbroken to have to reschedule my tour, warm ups and all, until a safer time for you, me and the staff at all the venues. I want you to be able to come to the show without any stress or worries and to enjoy yourselves like we always have.

‘But after attempting a handful of gigs with Covid restrictions this year I just don’t think it’s going to be the same experience for you and so I’ve taken the difficult decision to postpone Like Me to a more suitable time when we should be able to have a big old laugh together.’

In lieu of stand-up, Jason – who was a runner-up on the first series of The Masked Singer – launched the new afternoon BBC quiz show Unbeatable.

He said of the format, which will return this autumn: ‘I know how important daytime quizzes are for a lot of people, I used to sit with my Nana Manford and mum watching them, they keep the brain going, they’re a chuckle and I’m really looking forward to being a part of this exciting brand new one. The great thing about Unbeatable is you don’t even need to know the actual answer to appear clever. I feel like this is the quiz show I’ve been waiting for my whole life.’
