Mollie King had been left wondering why her former girl group The Saturdays had not been included in Little Mix’s winning speech at last week’s Brit Awards.

Little Mix made history at this year’s award ceremony, becoming the first all-female group to pick up the award for British Group, after previously being nominated three times.

During their speech, member Jade Thirlwall dedicated the gong to other British girl groups who had missed out on the award in the past.

She said: ‘This award isn’t just for us, it’s for Spice Girls, Sugababes, All Saints, Girls Aloud, all the incredible girl bands we love you.’

However, fellow group The Saturdays – which consisted of Mollie, Frankie Bridge, Una Healy, Rochelle Humes and Vanessa White – were one glaring omission from the speech that a lot of fans pointed out.

Little Mix star Perrie Edwards appeared live on Radio 1 where she was questioned by both Mollie and her co-host, Matt Edmondson, as to why the band did not feature in their speech.

Matt said: ‘I thought we should play her back, the speech, and get some answers.’

As he began to play Little Mix’s speech, he then said: ‘Now Perrie, is there anyone in there that you think might be missing?’

Perrie replied: ‘You know what, when we were in the dressing room I did flag this, I did say we’re gonna have to list The Saturdays and then Jade said, “What about Banarama? What about all the greats?”

‘And then everyone was like, “You can’t stand there and list every single girl band, just do four and move on”, and we were like, “Fair enough”.

‘Honestly Mollie I had your back. Don’t you worry. We just love every girl band, we just didn’t have time in the speech to name every one.’

Matt then jokingly asks Perrie if she had any ‘guilt’ and says that she can apologise to Mollie if she wishes.

Perrie then said: ‘I would like to apologise to Mollie and the other girls because you know, it was you guys that made me wanna be in a girl band in the first place.’

During their speech, the Little Mix girls – Perrie, Jade and Leigh-Anne Pinnock – also gave a shout-out to former member Jesy Nelson, who left last December to focus on her mental health.

Leigh-Anne began: ‘We have been together 10 years. It’s been the best years of our lives, we have gone through so much. We’ve had so much fun, made so many beautiful memories.

‘We want to start by thanking our incredible fans, of course Jesy and our amazing team.’

She then took a moment to speak out against the treatment of women in the music industry and said: ‘It’s not easy being a female in the UK pop industry.

‘We have seen white male dominance, misogyny, sexism and lack of diversity.

‘We are proud of how we have stuck together, stood our ground and surrounded ourselves with strong women and are now using our voices more than ever.’

Jesy acknowledged her former girl group’s history-making achievement, sharing a snap of the girls holding their trophy to her Instagram Stories, adding heart and clapping emoji.

Earlier in the night, both Leigh-Anne and Perrie had posed on the red carpet, cradling their baby bumps for the first time since they both announced their pregnancies.
