Morpheus was previously portrayed by Laurence Fishburne, who was not asked back for the film.
“Fans had been convinced about young Morpheus appearing in the film is because Warner Bros. allegedly always wanted to revive The Matrix franchise centered on a young version of Fishburne’s action hero,” IndieWire writes.
Laurence has previously been asked about why he wasn’t involved in the movie, and his answer has always been the same: he doesn’t know.
“I am not in the next Matrix movie and you’d have to ask (director) Lana Wachowski why, ’cause I don’t have an answer for that,” he shared.
Laurence added in another interview that his exclusion from the movie “will make me write another play. I wish them well. I hope it’s great.”
The fourth installment of the franchise will be in theaters nationwide and on HBO Max via the Ad-Free plan on December 22, 2021.
The movie will only be on HBO Max for 31 days.
