Nick Kamen’s partner of 15 years, Lucinda Cary, has paid tribute to the model and singer following his death.

The star, whose real name was Ivor Neville Kamen, died on Wednesday at the age of 59 after a battle with incurable cancer.

Now Lucinda, 46, has spoken for the first time since his death in an interview with MailOnline, referring to her late partner as an ‘amazing man’ and ‘incredible person’.

Lucinda explained: ‘Nick was an amazing man and he died with a lot of dignity and respect.

‘Nick was an incredible person, and it was really inspiring to be around him during his illness. There has been a lot of joy and hardship over the past three years and he could not have lived with more respect and dignity.’

Lucinda explained that Nick had been diagnosed with an incurable form of cancer and that ‘he’s known for the past three years that he was going to die’. She and her daughter Evie, 23, had been at Nick’s side during his final moments.

She also said that her partner ‘appreciated everything the NHS did for him’ while he was being treated for his illness, and was so thankful to the doctors and nurses at Hammersmith Hospital in West London who looked after him.

‘He’s known for the past three years that he was going to die but he never felt sorry for himself and lived his life with incredible charm and courage,’ she said.

‘It was very inspiring to be around him. He was very accepting of his situation and never got stressed about it at all.’

Nick’s ex-girlfriend Amanda de Cadenet – who he dated between 1999 and 2001 – also paid tribute following the news of his death, sharing a sweet photo of him with her daughter Atlanta de Cadenet.

She wrote: ‘So many feelings hearing that you are gone. This is a first to me. When an ex-boyfriend dies. Feels odd posting anything on social media. You weren’t even on this stuff.

‘I have so many photos I have taken of you, but this is one of the sweetest and reminds me of how much you loved @atlantabean. It’s from 1998.’

Nick rose to fame after appearing in an iconic advert for Levi’s 501 jeans, which first aired in 1984.

With Marvin Gaye’s Heard It Through The Grapevine playing over the top, the ad saw him stripping off in a launderette to wash his clothes.

The advert caught the attention of Madonna, who sung background vocals on Nick’s first song, Each Time You Break My Heart. The hit went on to reach the top 10 in the UK.

The Like A Prayer hitmaker again featured as a backing vocalist on his second album, on the song Tell Me.

Madonna shared a touching message upon hearing of his death, writing on Instagram: ‘It’s heart breaking to know you are gone.

‘You were always a kind, sweet human and you suffered too much. Hope you are happier wherever you are Nick Kamen.’
