Shannen Doherty shared a pair of candid images taken during her ongoing breast cancer battle as she marked breast cancer awareness month.

The 50-year-old actress, who has been diagnosed with stage four breast cancer, chose to give her Instagram followers a ‘truthful’ look at the realities of treatment as she urged people to get regular checkups.

In one image, the Charmed star could be seen dealing with a nose bleed, while the other pictures saw her lying in bed wearing Cookie Monster pajamas.

She posted a lengthy caption that read: For breast cancer awareness month, I’d like to share more of my own personal journey from my first diagnosis to my second.

‘Is it all pretty? NO but it’s truthful and my hope in sharing is that we all become more educated, more familiar with what cancer looks like. I hope I encourage people to get mammograms, to get regular checkups, to cut thru the fear and face whatever might be in front of you.’

She continued: ‘In 2015 I got diagnosed with breast cancer. I had a mastectomy and did chemo and radiation. I had many nose bleeds from the chemo.

‘Not sure if any of you experienced this. I also was beyond tired. I cheered myself up by putting on funny pajamas that my friend Kristy gave me. Did they actually cheer me up? Yes!! Lol. I looked ridiculous and in that ridiculousness, I was able to laugh at myself.’

The Heathers star continued: ‘Finding humor helped get me thru what seemed impossible. I hope we all find humor in the impossible. #breastcancerawareness’.

The moving post came just days after the Mallrats actress told fans she doesn’t want to live as if she’s dying.

‘You really have to dig deep to face cancer and, in that, you find all this stuff that you had hidden away,’ she said on Good Morning America. ‘It’s beautiful things that you find.

‘You find vulnerability, you find your trust in people again. You find forgiveness.’

Asked about how she previously said she doesn’t believe in bucket lists, Shannen continued: ‘I’d like to say that those are goals.

‘Because a bucket list almost feels like those things that you check off before you die. And I never want to operate like that. I just want to operate as “I don’t have things to check off because I’m going to keep fighting to stay alive.””

The Obsessed actress was first diagnosed with cancer in 2015, but two years later she shared how her chemo was over and she was feeling good.

However, in February last year, she revealed that the cancer had returned and that she had stage four breast cancer.

After her diagnosis, Shannen has been pushing herself to stay healthy, including going for hikes.

She was also incredibly honest, saying ‘it’s not always easy’ and ‘I have days I’m depressed or just plain lazy’ but added ‘I push thru with the help of friends (sic)’.

The star shared last year how her friends have helped her maintain a positive attitude.

She said: ‘After a year of dealing with cancer coming back and other stresses, I’m back at it. Taking care of myself and embracing every day.

‘It’s not always easy. I have days I’m depressed or just plain lazy. But I push thru with the help of friends.’
