Sharon Stone has shared her displeasure over the news that there will be a director’s XXX cut for Basic Instinct’s 30th anniversary – and claims she is unable to stop it.

The film, which cemented her star status under Paul Verhoeven’s watch – who had also given her a lead role in 1990’s Total Recall, opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger – came out in 1992.

In an infamous scene, Sharon crosses and uncrosses her legs during a police interrogation while sans underwear, and it’s this scene that upsets the actress as she claims Verhoeven suggested to her she would not be exposed.

Speaking to host Tracy Grimshaw on Australian TV show A Current Affair, Sharon said: ‘They’ve decided to release the director’s XXX cut for the 30th anniversary.’

Noting Tracy’s shocked expression, Sharon continued: ‘Yeah, your face is what my face looked like when I heard the news.’

The star explained that she did not hold any sway, or have the power to stop the re-release going ahead, as new rules from the Screen Actors Guild for this type of circumstance were only created after Basic Instinct was made.

However, the Oscar-nominee had initially responded with ‘I think there’s more to come on that’ when Tracy’s original line of questioning brought in the #MeToo movement and the fact the actress hadn’t been consulted properly on the scene.

In her recent memoir, The Beauty of Living Twice, excerpts of which were featured in Vanity Fair, Sharon recalled the moment she realised, at a screening, what had happened and slapped Verhoeven.

She wrote: ‘That was how I saw my vagina-shot for the first time, long after I’d been told, “We can’t see anything, I just need you to remove your panties, as the white is reflecting the light, so we know you have panties on.”

‘Yes, there have been many points of view on this topic, but since I’m the one with the vagina in question, let me say: The other points of view are bulls***. It was me and my parts up there.’
