Emma Raducanu has a lot to smile about after making history at the US Open.

So, it’s no surprise the 18-year-old tennis champ was seen with a huge grin on her face as she reunited with her dad on her return home to the UK.

She became the first qualifier ever to win a Grand Slam and the first British woman since Virginia Wade in 1977 to win a major following her US Open win, and she’s now trademarked her name as she’s tipped to become the first-ever sportswoman worth £1billion.

That’s a pretty impressive feat for the teen and still on cloud nine, Emma was seen no doubt still celebrating as she cuddled up to her dad on her arrival home in the purest of scenes.

After spending a lengthy amount of time across the pond preparing for her US Open debut and competing in the annual tournament, Emma looked delighted to finally be back on home soil.

Her appearance in London comes after John McEnroe addressed comments he previously made about Emma choosing to exit Wimbledon, where he claimed the competition got ‘too much’ for the youngster.

Two months prior to her US Open win, Emma had impressed at Wimbledon where she made it to the fourth round, before choosing to withdraw from her match with Ajla Tomljanovic after struggling to catch her breath and feeling dizzy.

McEnroe was commentating for the BBC at the time and faced backlash after claiming that the occasion had go the better of Emma.

The US tennis legend also questioned whether Emma would make it to the US Open and speaking after her win, he insisted his comments had been ‘vanilla’.

‘I meant exactly what I said. I tried to relate it in a small way to my experience when I first went to Wimbledon also at 18,’ he told CNN. ‘I mean that was to me as vanilla as it comes… I was very supportive of her, I thought, at the time.’

Praising Emma’s stellar achievement, McEnroe added: ‘I don’t think you could possibly do it any better than she did at the US Open. Are you kidding me? That’s insane. And that she’s been able to do this now there’s going to be obviously a lot more focus on it. It’s incredible.’

Brushing off any criticism, however, Emma was the picture of happiness on her return home – and she’s back in the UK significantly richer too after pocketing $2.5million (£1.8m) in prize money.

Still as down to earth as ever, Emma revealed that her first purchase with her new mega funds would be a new pair of AirPods. Like we couldn’t love her more.

Emma, who hails from Bromley, looked fresh-faced despite her long-haul flight and opted for a comfy getup for her travels that paired together a blue t-shirt and grey tracksuit bottoms.

Waving to onlookers as she arrived, Emma was beaming from ear-to-ear, as her proud dad wrapped an arm around her.

Reflecting on her ‘unbelievable’ win – which saw her beat Canadian tennis pro Leylah Fernandez – Emma previously said: ‘It’s pretty unbelievable. Never did I think when I came here to New York that I would walk away with the title.

‘We were joking about making it a three-week stay here but it actually happened and I think the key to that has just been really focusing on one point at a time.’

She continued: ‘I haven’t got ahead of myself in any moment in any of the matches, so that’s something that I’m very proud of and I managed to stay extremely focused and it managed to get me the title.’

Prior to returning to the UK, Emma got her first taste of that A-list life as she attended the Met Gala 2021 on Monday night.

She was surrounded by a whole host of celebs, including Kendall Jenner, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, Gigi Hadid, Rihanna and Justin Bieber, as she walked the star-studded red carpet.

What better way to celebrate winning your first major than rubbing shoulders with showbiz royalty, right?

Ditching her tennis kit, Emma looked amazing as she decked herself out in a monochrome Chanel two-piece for the evening.

Following her US Open win, the sports star has been inundated with congratulatory messages, which even included a letter from the Queen.

Tennis pro Novak Djokovic was seen praising Emma’s talent on court, as he tweeted: ‘Amazing fairytale story on the women’s side with two teenagers competing in the final. Emma you are fantastic.’

Emma was mentored by fellow British pro Andy Murray for the past two years through the Amazon Prime talent scheme, with Murray reportedly private messaging Emma to congratulate her on her new title.
