Zack Snyder Talks How He Digitally Added Tig Notaro To ‘Army of the Dead’

Zack Snyder has revealed that Tig Notaro had to be digitally added to Army of the Dead, following taking over the role meant for Chris D’Elia.

The 50-year-old actor plays helicopter pilot Marianne Peters in the movie, and was added after the movie had been filmed, which presented some technical challenges.

“The biggest challenge was exactly what you’d imagine – shooting Tig in all those different environments and scenarios. It’s all just putting Tig on green screen, in chairs, standing and firing a gun, and just matching the lighting,” Zack revealed in an interview with Digital Spy, ahead of the film’s debut in theaters on May 14.

He added that it was very much a “technical exercise in a lot of ways for me, because it’s one of those movies that I had shot with the most sort of raw lighting concept, to make it feel really real.”

“The most raw, handheld, lit-by-a-flashlight movie – now to do that in a super scientific, controlled environment, recreated exactly, with actual lights and stuff.”

Zack then added that Tig taking over the role was “amazing”, and that her performance “literally is perfect”.

“I couldn’t be happier. Her whole cadence, and her as this kind of gruff helicopter pilot – she’s kind of perfect. It’s pretty amazing.”

Army of the Dead will also be streaming on Netflix on May 21.
