Hello North Carolina Health News readers! My name is Elizabeth Thompson, and I am ecstatic to be your newest reporter covering gender and prison health.
I am from Long Island, N.Y., but although I am not originally from North Carolina, I got here as soon as I could! I graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with double majors in journalism and music in 2020, and I have covered tech and startup news for Durham-based news website GrepBeat and state politics for the Raleigh News & Observer and PolitiFact NC.
Previously, I covered Texas politics for the Washington Bureau of The Dallas Morning News. I am so excited to cover your stories for North Carolina Health News, getting to the bottom of state politics, research and news surrounding everything from maternal mortality, the LGBTQ community, formerly incarcerated people and North Carolina’s prison system — and of course, how COVID-19 has affected all of those things.
How can I cover your community best? Let me know at [email protected].
