When will Chris Paul be back?

The Suns survived the first two games of the West Finals without their leader. But with the series shifting to Los Angeles, Phoenix would certainly love to have CP3 back in uniform.

They may just get their wish.

A source told ESPN Tuesday night that there “is optimism within the Suns organization” that Paul “could return for Game 3 on Thursday in Los Angeles.” As of Wednesday, Paul has been away from the Clippers for a week due to the league’s health and safety protocols. A player testing positive for COVID-19 in the NBA requires the player to be quarantined for a minimum of 10-14 days. However, if the player is vaccinated and tests positive then he may be allowed to return earlier. Multiple people, including ESPN’s Matt Barnes, have said that Paul is, indeed, vaccinated.

Paul has been and continues to be asymptomatic.

If not Game 3 on Thursday night, Game 4 on Saturday in LA seems like a lock for Paul’s return to the team.

Suns odds

Rarely in the NBA does a surprise team go deep into the playoffs, let alone win it all. But Phoenix is bucking all pro basketball trends this postseason – right down to actually converting on a last second, out of bounds alley-oop.

The Suns were +5500 to win the NBA title at FanDuel Sportsbook in December of 2020. Now Monty Williams’ crew has the second lowest odds to capture the Larry O’Brien Trophy this July with +115 odds as of June 23.

Phoenix is to win Game 3 and is to win the series and the Western Conference crown.

Chris Paul odds

Despite being on the shelf, Paul has the third lowest odds to win NBA Finals MVP at +400 (DraftKings Sportsbook) as it is fully expected that he will play in the Finals should Phoenix advance past the Clippers. Only Giannis Antetokounmpo at +115 and Paul’s teammate Devin Booker (+260) have shorter odds. CP3 was +500 to win Finals MVP at FanDuel Sportsbook Wednesday afternoon.
