The iPhone 13’s brighter display, longer battery life and powerful cameras make it the best iPhone for the money. But we wish it had faster charging and the iPhone 13 Pro’s adaptive 120Hz display.

I think it’s all too easy to look at the iPhone 13 and 13 Mini and not think much of the updates this year. Cameras get better every year and every company promises good battery life, after all. And compared to the massive changes we saw on the iPhone last year, the 13 looks iterative, more like an iPhone 12S than truly new models.

The iPhone 13 and 13 mini feel like they should have been called the 12s and 12s mini, thanks to a largely similar design and few major upgrades from the previous models. If you have an iPhone 12, you need to decide if the longer battery life and photography updates are worth however much the upgrade will cost you.

Although not drastically different from its predecessor, the boost to battery life for this generation makes it an ideal choice for those seeking a big-screen device. Sure, you do miss out on a handful of nice-to-have features compared to the Pro model – including the telephoto zoom lens and 120Hz fast-refresh display – but the iPhone 13 is still an excellent all-round device that, importantly, doesn’t cost quite as much.

The iPhone 13 and 13 Mini received a number of significant upgrades including new cameras, a bigger battery, more storage and a brighter screen. The iPhone 13 is a delightful upgrade to last year’s already wonderful iPhone 12 family. Some will be disappointed because it’s not radically different from previous models, but that’s actually part of the charm.

The iPhone 13 isn’t a game changer for Apple’s series of smartphones, but it’s an important iteration that offers better battery life, a better processor and an upgraded camera setup than iPhones that have gone before it. If you’re looking for a fast and capable smartphone, and don’t need the extra features of the pricier Pro model, this is a top choice.

Overall, all of the iPhone 13 models contain only minor updates from last year, and you don’t need to upgrade from the iPhone 12. But if you’re coming from an iPhone 11 or earlier, you’ll like the new design, the boost in cameras, better battery life and nicer screens, no matter what model you pick.
