An Antiques Roadshow expert was left amazed on Sunday night’s instalment of the BBC One show after a guest brought six vintage chairs to be valued at Windermere Jetty museum.
The unknowing owner revealed that she had come across the vintage chairs in a charity shop in her local town, and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to bring them home after they were priced at just £5 each.
During the episode, as the expert examined the leather brown vintage gems, the owner admitted that she had planned to give her best pal three of the chairs as she didn’t need all six for herself.
However, when she was giving them a quick dust-off, she discovered a designer label on the bottom.
Knowing that the chairs could potentially be worth a lot of money, the savvy customer decided not to pawn them off on her friend until she learned the true value of her charity shop purchases.
And it’s lucky she didn’t, because after laying eyes on the vintage finds, the gobsmacked expert couldn’t quite believe that the charity shop was flogging the expensive chairs at just £5 a pop.
Lifting the lid on the true value of the vintage pieces, the antique guru revealed: “In a design sale, I would put a pre-sale estimate of £250 each on these chairs.”
To which the gobsmacked owner replied: “Oh, well. I think that’s fab!”
“Next time you go shopping, take me with you,” the expert quipped.
It wasn’t just the unknowing owner of the chairs that were left surprised by the cost of the chairs.
Some viewers flocked to Twitter to share their thoughts.
“Lord, I bet she’s lucky she went ahead with buying those ‘hideous’ chairs,” joked one fan.

Meanwhile, a third shared: “I wouldn’t have paid £1 for those chairs. But I’m happy she’s getting rid of them for some dosh in return.”
