Bake Off star George hits back at cruel trolls who sent him ‘hateful’ messages

Great British Bake Off star George Artistidou has revealed he was sent horrible messages by internet trolls who slid into his Instagram DMs after he beat Amanda Georgiou to get through to the next round of the Channel 4 show

Bake Off: Amanda is eliminated in controversial episode

A Great British Bake Off star has hit back at “hateful” internet trolls who sent him horrible messages after he survived this week’s elimination.

George Artistidou went through to the next round of the show after beating fellow contestant Amanda Georgiou in Pie Week.

Amanda got her marching orders after her terrine pie disintegrated. Her signature cream-filled rose doughnuts also failed to impress the Bake Off judges.

But instead of being able to celebrate his win, dad-of-three George revealed he had been cruelly trolled on Instagram.

He didn’t share what private DM messages to him said – but they must have been bad enough for George to speak out.

The 34-year-old baker took to his Instagram stories to write a long message to haters who had ruined what should have been a joyful moment for him.

He started by saying thanks to people who had been supportive of his win, saying: “I just wanted to say a huge thank you to all the kind hearted people who are supporting ALL the bakers with true bake-off spirit! You guys are amazing!

Addressing the trolling, he added: “To the minority who feel it’s ok to privately message hateful opinions to make people feel bad about themselves is not cool.

“Can I just remind you it’s a baking show that we all auditioned for and you do not have to go out of your way to spread hate.”

He ended his message with the hashtags #bekind, #spreadlovenothate and #whodiedandmadeyouthejudge.

Greek baker Amanda Georgiou became the sixth contestant to leave the Great British Bake Off.

Things went wrong when her showstopper terrine pie disintegrated as she tried to take it out of the tin.

The mum-of-two said: “Chigs came to help me but even he couldn’t rescue the disaster.”

The Metropolitan police officer said taking part in the series had transported her away from her tough day job and filled her “with joy forever”.

The Londoner said she enjoyed every minute, adding: “I’m feeling pretty good about myself that I got over the half-way mark. You’ve got to leave sometime don’t you.

“I came here to have fun and it was stressful at times. But I’m glad that I did what I did.

“I’m so happy to have met all these other wonderful people and maybe if I didn’t talk so much of would have gotten a bit further in the show.”

Bake Off continues next week when the remaining contestants will battle it out in Caramel Week.
