Body found in search for missing hiker last seen in selfie taken on Ben Nevis

The body of a woman has been found in the search for a missing hiker who was last seen in a selfie she took on the Ben Nevis two days ago.

Sarah Buick, 24, shared a picture on the peak of Scotland’s highest mountain at around 6am on Tuesday but has not been seen or heard from since.

Police Scotland said a body has now been found, but it still has to be formally identified.

The woman’s family has been informed, police added.

“There are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course,” said the force.

Members of Lochaber, RAF and Police Scotland mountain rescue teams today joined the hunt for Ms Buick.

She had posted her image at the top of 4413ft high Ben Nevis to social media with the caption: “Good morning from Ben Nevis.”

At the time she went missing she was wearing a light green jacket and carrying an orange rucksack.

Officers said she could have moved to other locations in the Lochaber area.

A statement said: “Police Scotland are appealing for witnesses that can assist in tracing Sarah Buick in the Lochaber area.

“Sarah is a keen walker and was last known to be, as pictured at the Summit of Ben Nevis at 05:00 hours 22/06/21, however she may have moved on to other locations within the area.

“If you have sighted Sarah at any time on or after 22/06/21 please contact the Police straight away on 101, quoting incident number PS-20210622-2741.”

On Wednesday, Insp Nick Hough said: “As time goes on we are becoming increasingly concerned for Sarah.

“She is an experienced walker and often makes trips alone, but it is very unlike her to be out of contact with friends and family for this length of time.”
