Vile bullies ‘completely desecrated’ the grave of a 12-year-old rape victim who took her own life after months of physical and emotional abuse, her devastated mother has revealed.

Semina Halliwell, a ‘beautiful and funny’ girl from Southport, died on June 12 after she was left ‘traumatised’ by online abuse after the sexual offence, allegedly by a boy of a similar age, in February.

In July, her mother Rachel Halliwell said she feared Semina’s bullies would gatecrash the funeral, with images at the time appearing to show people making fun of her death.

Yesterday a family friend found Semina’s grave had been ‘completely desecrated’. Ms Halliwell said: ‘It was covered in bricks and rocks and there was dog mess all over it. It was clearly done on purpose.

‘Heartless disgusting vile people. There are no words to describe these evil people that could do this to a 12-year-old girl’s grave.’

The grave has since been cleaned by people who knew and loved Semina. However, a vile new screenshot appears to show someone offering money to anyone who would ‘trash’ Semina’s grave – and film it.

Ms Halliwell previously told the Liverpool Echo that Semina had reported being raped and then bullied online about her horrific ordeal.

She said what happened to the Stanley High pupil had left her ‘traumatised’.

Ms Halliwell shared footage appearing to show Semina being physically attacked earlier this year. She said she believes the incidents took place in parks near their home around a month after the alleged rape.

Merseyside Police has confirmed detectives are investigating a report of rape at an address in Southport on February 25.

A force spokesman said: ‘Extensive enquiries are ongoing into this allegation and other matters relating to the same alleged victim, and it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage.’

Semina’s tragic case was raised at a parliamentary committee on June 23, when Labour MP Apsana Begum asked Education Secretary Gavin Williamson what more can be done to help protect children from sexual harassment and abuse.

Ms Begum said: ‘I wanted to highlight the case of Semina who was 12 years old who disclosed that she’d been raped, and committed suicide.’

Police officers confirmed they are investigating the desecration of Semina’s grave.

Community Inspector Graham Fisher said: ‘The community will no doubt share our shock and revulsion that a grave could be desecrated like this.

‘This is the final resting place of a beloved family member, and I can only imagine how upsetting it must have been for their loved ones to find that the grave had been treated in this way.

‘While thankfully no permanent damage has been caused, it will have caused lasting distress to the family.

‘I want to appeal to anyone who may have been visiting the cemetery in recent days and witnessed anything suspicious to contact us so that we can bring the perpetrators of this callous crime to justice.’
