The Coldplay frontman fears he might miss inspiration if he allows himself to sleep so prefers to nap and meditate – and has cracked out tunes in the dead of night as a result
Chris Martin says he wants to stay awake practically 24 hours a day so he doesn’t miss the lightning bolt of inspiration to write his next hit for Coldplay.
The 44-year-old chart topping star says he tried to avoid sleeping at night – instead preferring naps and meditation to keep himself energised.
The singer – who has released eight albums and 36 singles with his award-winning band – claims his greatest inspiration comes in the dead of night, at which time he is already poised to scribble down notes.
And the Grammy award winning star claims he received advice on how best to nap by the trainer of a champion Ultimate Fighting Championship star.

“After we played in Dublin last time, I went to train in a gym and he said the key to life is making yourself lie down for 15 minutes and close your eyes in the afternoon.”
He continued: “I really like being awake. And I also think that songs tend to be flying around between about midnight and two – I often get inspired. If that happens I can’t wait to get back up again.”
Addressing a range of topics in his chat with Rob, Chris went on to reveal he has changed his diet which, already vegetarian, now rejects dairy.
The Every Tear Is A Waterfall singer explained that his new diet has proved to be a hit for his vocal abilities – but he confesses he feels he has betrayed his Devonshire upbringing.
He said: “I don’t f*** with dairy any more.
“What’s funny when you’re trying to stay really healthy, there’s still a voice inside you that says, ‘Yeah, but . . .’ And my ‘Yeah, but’ voice is about [dairy] because I grew up in Devon, where you basically washed in it.
“So there’s still a part of me that – despite my body feeling better, and I’m singing better – I would throw it all away for four Weetabix and double cream. And I will have to do that at some point.
“When we first went to America I was wondering why we were getting sick all the time and was wondering it while holding 12 strawberry milkshakes.”

He went on to state: “I did milk a goat the other day, but I didn’t partake.”
Coldplay fans shouldn’t have too much longer to wait until the release of the band’s ninth studio album – and to hear Chris’s apparently new and improved vocal abilities.
The rock band are tipped to release their new album, believed to be titled Music Of The Spheres, before the end of the year.
