“Conman” Conor McGregor told to forget about “laughable” world title shot

Colby Covington has labelled Conor McGregor a “conman” and said it was “laughable” the Irish star is trying to compete for the welterweight title.

McGregor called out reigning welterweight champion Kamaru Usman after he successfully defended his title against Jorge Masvidal last month.

Covington suggested the UFC star should forget about moving to 170lb after being defeated by Dustin Poirier by knock-out in January. The pair will take to the octagon again in July for a trilogy fight with McGregor havinh defeated Poirier in their first bout in 2014.

Covington told Submission Radio : “I think it’s laughable. It’s comical. I mean, you just got sparked by Dustin Soyier. Go ask Dustin Soyier about the times we used to train together.

Colby Covington has said McGregor should not challenge for the welterweight title

“He used to cry. He lived in the gym crying. He told his coach Mike Brown (fake crying), ‘Oh, man, Colby’s so tough. I can’t stop him. Why’s he so good? Why does he use his pace so much? And I quit like a little b***h!’

“So you just got sparked by Dustin Soyier, so sit the f*** down, Conman McGregor.”

He then said McGregor has nothing left and the fighter has no hunger for fighting anymore.

McGregor is continuing his fighting career with his sights set on being the champ-champ and so it’s understood he will target the lightweight belt fight after his bout with Poirier.

If the Irish star then challenges for the welterweight belt it could set up an interesting fight for fans as Covington may be the holder of the title at that time.

Despite the American aiming to bout Usman soon in a welterweight clash, doubts were cast on the fight as Usman’s manager Ali Abdelaziz has said Covington doesn’t deserve the bout.

Abdelaziz told MMA Junkie : “I don’t think he deserves it, but listen, it’s a business. It’s about selling fights. And it’s always awesome doing business with the UFC behind closed doors.

“If this is the next fight, OK. But Colby has to give a lot of stuff out of his own pocket if he wants this fight. That’s what I think.”
