Coronation Street viewers have been left wondering how Kelly Neelan is the prime suspect in the murder of Seb Franklin, who tragically died last week after a hate attack.
Corey Brent is thought to have attacked Seb along with Kelly, and they injured him so badly he later died in hospital.
His mum Abi Franklin has vowed to bring his killers to justice, and on Wednesday she listened to the voicemail he left her shortly before he died, and she heard the start of the attack.
Nina cannot recall what happened, and Corey Brent and Kelly have been pointing the finger at each other, with Corey seeming more guilty as he tried to bully Asha Alahan into giving him a fake alibi.
The only identifiable voice in the voicemail is Kelly’s, meaning she is the prime suspect while Corey Brent has also issued a false witness statement claiming she acted alone and he even tried to stop her – while she says it was the other way around.
Kelly maintains Corey dealt the killer blows, but due to their vastly different family wealth, she may end up being scapegoated for the entire attack.
But viewers have pointed out petite Kelly would have struggled to beat up Seb and Nina alone, so badly that one was incapacitated and one died.
One tweeted: “As if the police would believe that Kelly could push Seb down to the ground and that Corey wouldn’t be able to stop Kelly. She’s half the size of him. #Corrie “.
Another wrote: ” #Corrie not sure how Kelly is supposed to have single handedly beaten BOTH nina and seb up at the same time…”
A third added: “I’m not sure I believe Kelly tried to pull Corey off Seb. He’s a lot bigger than her for a start, and would she rly risk him turning on her? Plus the way Corey talked to Kelly after the attack, advising her what to do etc sounded like they both took part in the kicks tbh #Corrie “.
Kelly told her foster father and lawyer Imran and a police officer named DS Swain what happened – and the emotion in her face hinted that she was telling the truth.
She wept: “We were just messing around, we followed them across the waste ground and on to the street, it was just verbals, that’s all.
“It was wrong but it was harmless.”
DS Swain asked: “And you were leading this?”
“No, and it wasn’t just me,” replied Kelly.
“It all happened really fast, first it was name calling and then it went really crazy.
“Eli shoved Nina down and then he chased her, and then Corey pushed Seb over and I think he hit his head, and got knocked out, and Corey started kicking him.
“I was trying to pull Corey off because he kept kicking Seb in the head, and then I was grabbing him begging him to stop, I will never forget that sound.”
DS Swain then told Kelly the voicemail incriminates her, and it was later revealed she was charged with Seb’s murder after Corey claimed it was Kelly acting alone.
