Coronation Street’s Zeedan Nazir explained the full story on his split from his wife Mariam, and why he has been harassed by her family
Coronation Street’s Zeedan Nazir was forced to confess all about his lies on Wednesday night, to stop his family going to the police as they feared for his safety.
Zeedan recently returned to the soap after three years away from Weatherfield, and he was soon hiding things from sister Alya and grandmother Yasmeen.
It was clear someone was out to get him and that he was in trouble, soon proven when he was viciously beaten up and left in the street.
He initially claimed he was attacked by Ryan Connor, or at least suggested it, before claiming not to know who it was.
The truth was soon exposed though – as well as what he had been hiding.
Despite tying the knot with new wife Mariam last year, he revealed they had separated and that it had been over for some time.
He returned to Weatherfield for a fresh start, but it seems he was also trying to lay low.
Zeedan had said that Mariam’s father wasn’t happy with him dumping his daughter and ending their marriage, and that this was why he had threatened him.
As well as making weird phone calls, his father-in-law also threatened that he was going to kill him – with his sons, Mariam’s brothers, behind the brutal assault.
It wasn’t until Wednesday’s episode of the ITV soap though that the full truth came out.
Zeedan’s family were fearing for his safety and decided to call the police to stop his in-laws coming after him.
He was forced to stop them in their tracks though before dropping a huge confession, revealing the real reason that he was being targeted by the men.
Zeedan admitted to Alya that he had an affair and that her family found out.
He claimed they were already over, or so he thought, with the marriage falling apart before he made the betrayal.
He soon confessed the cheating to gran Yasmeen too who was furious with him, and she refused to accept his offer of money to help save the family business.
She later stopped him from leaving, and swore that if Mariam’s family made contact again and threatened his life, she would be going to the police herself.
So is this the last we will hear of his revenge-fuelled in-laws, or is there more to come?
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm and 8:30pm on ITV.
