A couple have gone viral on TikTok after sharing videos of their impressive home makeover – which saw them take a “filthy” four-bedroom house and transform it into their dream property.

Rebecca and Fraser Brennan-Brown, 27 and 28, bought their home in Kent just nine months ago in January 2021 for £375,000.

The property – which was originally valued at £400,000 – was “filthy” and “smoke-damaged”, and the couple got to work right away on revitalising the home from the ground up.

After renovations started, the pair decided to start filming their progress on TikTok, and have been stunned by the reaction their videos have had.

The pair have 200,000 followers on their @our70shome account, and their most watched video has over six million views and an impressive 500,000 likes.

Rebecca said of her property: “The house was such a mess – it hadn’t been looked after very well so there were chunks of the floor missing, holes in the walls and general dirt everywhere.

“One of the worst problems was smoke damage caused by an old wood burner that was used to heat the house, which has meant we’ve had to scrub all of the walls to get the soot off.

“The windows were so bad that when we moved in, we literally had to wear three jumpers and hold hot water bottles so as not to freeze.

“The carpets were filthy, and the house was ultimately in need of some care and attention.”

The couple hired tradespeople to help them give their home a complete overhaul, and have replastered walls and installed new floors – as well as knocking down some walls to create bigger rooms with even more space.

Rebecca also re-grouted the bathroom for £60 – which she filmed for the pair’s TikTok page, where she compared the difference between grout pens and grouting.

She added: “We have been doing as much DIY as we can but are keen to ensure the house is to a really good standard, so anything we’ve not felt comfortable doing we have got the experts in.”

So far, the couple have spent £25,000 on their renovations, and have transformed their bedroom, two offices, the bathroom and a dressing room.

Next on the agenda is their lounge and kitchen, and when they’re done, they’re hoping the house will be worth an extra £100,000.

Rebecca said: “We want to create somewhere we can see ourselves living for the next 10 years that we can enjoy as a couple with our friends, and potentially as a family.

“We want to create a house suited to us and reflecting our personalities and lifestyles.

“We’re now about halfway through and it feels like we’re living on a building site right now.

“We’re not sure but we expect the market value to have increased. Once the extension is finished, we hope to get the house revalued for around £475,000.”
