Wilder was knocked down three times, including in the penultimate round when the referee waved off the trilogy fight
Deontay Wilder has been taken to hospital as a precaution after suffering a brutal defeat at the hands of Tyson Fury.
Wilder was knocked down in the third, 10th and 11th rounds as he lost to Fury for a second time in 20 months.
Fury was also sent to the canvas but was able to rise twice in the fourth round before dominating the remainder of the fight.
Wilder looked out of shape from the halfway mark as he suffered prolonged punishment at the hands of Fury.
And such was his beating, the former champion was taken to University Medical Center to be looked over.
“I did my best, but it wasn’t good enough tonight,” he said. “I’m not sure what happened. I know that in training he did certain things, and I also knew that he didn’t come in at 277 pounds to be a ballet dancer. He came to lean on me, try to rough me up and he succeeded.”
Fury celebrated his victory by serenading the Las Vegas crowd with an Elvis Pressley medley.
And he said: “”Like the great John Wayne said, Iron and steel baby!
“I give him the glory for the victory. He’s a tough man. He took some big shots tonight. It was a great fight, as good as any trilogy in history.
“I beat him three times and I’m a sportsman and wanted to give him some love and respect. And he didn’t want to give it back. That’s his problem and I pray for him.
“This was a great fight and October 9, 2021 will go down in history, I hope.
“I always said I was the best in the world and he was the second best. Don’t ever doubt me. When the chips are down, I will always deliver.”
