A pet owner has come up with a brilliant yet simple solution for trimming his dog’s nails effectively at home after he turned a reusable shopping bag into a harness.

Honey the Italian greyhound, who lives in Queensland with her owner Luke Young and his partner Ashleigh, was filmed getting her nails clipped while dangling from the ‘doggy bag’, which was hanging off a hook in the patio.

The owner had strategically cut holes in the green eco bag so his puppy’s legs and head can fit through comfortably during her grooming session.

The TikTok video titled ‘How to clip your dog’s nails 101’ shows Honey looking calm while her legs dangled below her, making it easier for Ashleigh to clip her nails without any commotion.

Shortly before coming up with the solution, Luke said they tried to cut her nails the ‘conventional way’ but Honey struggled to sit still.

‘She would pull her legs away and try and escape my hold. It was very difficult to cut her nails without holding her down,’ Luke told Daily Mail Australia.

‘We really did not want to make it a big deal otherwise next time we try and cut it she would be even more difficult.’

And so they decided to create a dog harness using a Woolworths shopping bag.

‘We cut a few holes to make sure all of her limbs would fit through comfortably, making sure all of the weight is supported evenly,’ Luke said.

‘As you can see in the video, she wasn’t fussed at all, she was really content just hanging there she did not move or try and pull her legs away. We did not notice any signs of discomfort during the process or we would have immediately taken her out.

‘We love our animals and would never do anything that makes them uncomfortable.’

The video has since been viewed more than 400,000 times, with many pet owners saying they were keen to give this trick a go after struggling to clip their dog’s nails.

‘My Italian greyhounds are terrified of nail clippers… I need to try this,’ one wrote, while another said: ‘Oh my god, I just gave up trying to cut my dog’s nails after only getting one before she bolted. Will try this tomorrow.

‘This is actually perfect,’ another said, while one added: ‘Brilliant… Just brilliant.’

However, many pet owners pointed out the method only works on small dogs.

‘If only I could do that for my dalmatians,’ one said.

‘Gold! But I’m going to need a bigger bag,’ another wrote, while one said: ‘My dog would break that bag… and the roof.’

While one woman joked: ‘Do you think my Labrador would fit in a Woolies bag?’
