Emmerdale aired dramatic scenes last week as Jamie Tate drove his car into a lake, while he remains missing and presumed dead
Emmerdale’s Kim Tate remained keen to track down her missing son Jamie during Monday’s episode of the ITV soap, despite being told he was dead.
Jamie lost control of his vehicle after trying to flee the village, narrowly avoiding a collision with neighbour Chas Dingle, who had her young daughter Eve in the back of her car.
He had driven onto the wrong side of the road and came out of nowhere, distracted by an incoming call from Gabby Thomas.
He swerved to avoid hitting Chas’ car, only to drive off the road and through bushes, before his car ploughed into a huge lake.
Jamie’s car sank quickly out of sight, with there being no sign of him being alive in the aftermath.
His car was pulled out of the lake on Friday by the search and rescue team, as divers continued to look for Jamie’s body as it became apparent he was not in the car.
Officers investigating the crash said the evidence suggested there was no way Jamie could have survived the crash.
Monday’s episode saw Kim told that the search has resumed and that his body may have been carried away by other things in the lake.
Of course viewers are speculating he has survived and might be faking his death, after noticing the driver seat window was open when the car was lifted out of the water.
They are not the only ones considering his fate though, with his mother Kim in denial that her son could be dead.
While it might just be shock and grief, Kim is adamant that her son is alive and out there somewhere, refusing to believe they will find a body.
She was told by the leading officer: “The chances of him surviving this are extremely low Mrs Tate.”
Kim was also told she needed to face the facts that her son had most likely died in the crash, but she repeated the fact there was currently no body.
She even accused Chas of lying, suggesting she was the one driving erratically and might have caused her son’s accident.
Both Gabby, who is carrying Jamie’s baby, and his on/off lover Dawn were blaming themselves, fearing they had distracted him.
Dawn had just had a row with him and told him she thought he was pathetic, causing him to flee, while Gabby’s call was what led to him taking his eyes off the road.
Chas told Kim her son was a hero, swerving in time to avoid her and Eve only to possibly lose his life.
Kim lashed out though and threw a drink in her face, accusing her of causing her son’s potential death – while she remained convinced he was alive.
As Dawn’s dad Will paid Kim a visit at home later on, he too told her there was no way Jamie would have survived the crash and immediate sinking of his car.
Kim simply responded: “We will see, won’t we,” and how he would be able to tell them what happened himself “soon”.
But is Kim on to something, and is she right about Jamie surviving after all?
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
