Paige Deville has spoken about her time on Gogglebox and has claimed that the hours and filming were long and arduous with her mum facing particular difficulties
Paige Deville has spoken about why she has quit Channel 4 show Gogglebox and that her mum Sally, who co-starred with her on the sofa, faced particular difficulties while filming.
The 25-year-old from Birmingham tweeted a stinging riposte to the producers of the hit show, which triumphed at the National Television Awards last week, slamming their aftercare and the amount of hours required at short notice to film episodes.
Paige said that the Gogglebox bosses “controlled” their lives and that there was little support after she had a fallout with her mum which ultimately led to them leaving the show.
Speaking to Birmingham Live, Paige also detailed how her mum was made to feel uncomfortable during filming, as she was forced to stay in the same position for hours on end.
Paige said: “”Filming is tough. You would stop to go to the toilet but other than that you wouldn’t have a break. You would eat while filming.
“At one point my mum had her arm around me for four hours and they didn’t want her to move her arm. It isn’t as glamorous as you might think. It is very hard work.”
Revealing the reason why she decided to walk away from the show, Paige said: “There have been problems within the family and my mum was given an ultimatum. The decision means I have nothing to do with her now. I think the decision is irreversible.
“It is very sad but that’s life unfortunately.”
Paige surprised fans of the show by tweeting that she had quit on Friday along with criticism as to how the stars of the show are treated.
She tweeted: “I have made the decision to walk away from Gogglebox. It’s been an experience but one I cannot continue with due to long hours of filming, restrictiveness, control of our actions and opinions & zero aftercare support but hey who cares about ex cast, their NTA winners”.
Paige told Birmingham Live that while she is treated like a celebrity, there is much about the attention that is not welcomed and that her fee for the show did not put her in the same bracket as many reality stars.
She said: “You are thrown into the lion’s den being exposed to trolls on Twitter. They take over your life. I bought a car and Gogglebox contacted me to say i need to make it clear the purchase wasn’t endorsed by them.
“Your life is controlled somewhat by them.
“You are treated like a celebrity but you are not paid celebrity wages.
“I go shopping at 10pm at night because if I go in the day I get hassled by Gogglebox fans. I just don’t think its worth it anymore.”
