Grime artist Wiley has been charged with assault and burglary after allegedly breaking into a flat that belonged to his friend and attacking him.

The hitmaker – real name Richard Cowie Jr – is accused of breaking into the Forest Gate home of friend, kickboxer Ali Jacko, on August 28.

Cowie, 42, is due to appear at Thames Magistrates Court on September 13 and will face charges of assault by beating and burglary of a dwelling with intent to cause damage.

The Met Police said: “At around 2200hrs on Saturday 28 August police were called to a flat in Forest Gate.

The Met Police said: “At around 2200hrs on Saturday 28 August police were called to a flat in Forest Gate.

“Officers attended the location. It was alleged that a man had entered the flat, assaulted the occupant and caused criminal damage to property.

“The man was arrested and taken into custody.

“The occupant, an adult male, sustained a minor injury.”

The police added that paramedics had not been needed to attend the scene of the alleged assault on Romford Road.

The force confirmed on Monday to The Mirror Cowie had been charged as above.

Wiley has been called the “godfather of grime” and was handed an MBE 2018.

In 2001, Wiley came onto the music scene as a member of garage crew Pay As U go with the hit Champagne Dance.

After the crew went their separate ways he went on to form the Roll Deep entourage with Dizzee Rascal and Tinchy Stryder.

He then made it on his own and released several mainstream singles such as Wearing My Rolex and Heatwave.

The Grime musician was also awarded an Outstanding Contribution to Music award by NME in 2017.
