Soap opera star Michael Tylo has died at the age of 73.
The actor was best known for playing the archaeologist Quinton Chamberlain on the CBS hit Guiding Light.
His death was confirmed by The University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he had been working as a film professor. No cause of death has yet been disclosed.
“Michael Tylo was a beautiful and caring human being — he was so special, said Nancy Uscher, Dean of the College of Fine Arts.
Michael was a big hit in the soap opera world and was also a regular fixture on shows such as The Young And The Restless, General Hospital and All My Children.
His first appearance came when he starred in Another World in 1980. After that, his career grew and he landed his role on Guiding Light.
He played the debonair archaeologist Quinton Chamberlain and quickly became a fan favourite. He featured on the show between 1981 and 1984, making two cameo appearances over a decade later in 1996 and 1997.
He met his first wife while working on All My Children.
Fellow star Deborah Morehart was reportedly fired from the show when their relationship became known due to a policy about relationships between actors.
The pair married in 1987 before separating in 2005.
They had two daughters, Izabella and Katya, plus a son, Michael Tylo Jr, together. They also had stepson Christopher Morehart from Deborah’s previous marriage to Tom Morehart.
Sadly, Michael Jr. drowned at home in the family’s pool in 2007.
The actor went on to marry again in 2010 when he tied the knot with Rachelle Tylo (née Reichert). Two years later, the pair welcomed their daughter Kollette.
Fans, famous faces and TV shows he appeared on were quick to pass on their condolences on social media following the news.
The official Twitter page for The Young and the Restless wrote: “Our deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of Michael Tylo who graced #YR with his talents as Blade and Rick.”
A fan also took to Twitter to comment: “RIP Michael Tylo a man who starred in many soap operas including my favorite All My Children. He went on to teach at the University of Nevada where others might benefit from his incredible knowledge of acting and film work.”
And another wrote: “I’ll always remember Michael Tylo as Quentin McCord on Guiding Light. My deepest condolences to his family.”
