Brian Laundrie went missing after he returned home without Gabby Petito, whose body was later found after she was strangled to death in a US national park
The probability is ‘strong’ that human remains found in the search for missing Brian Laundrie are his, his parents’ lawyer has said.
Partial human remains were found on Wednesday in a Florida wilderness area where authorities were searching for Laundrie.
The Sarasota County Medical Examiner’s Office was called on to the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park where the search for Laundrie was under way.
FBI investigators were working at Carlton Reserve, which is near the park, the agency’s Tampa division said.
“Investigators found what appeared to be human remains, along with personal items … belonging to Brian Laundrie,” the FBI said.

Gabby Petito’s disappearance during a cross-country road trip with her boyfriend sparked a major search operation.
She was later found having been killed by strangulation, a local coroner said earlier this month.
In a new interview with CNN Laundrie’s family lawyer Steven Bertolino said there was a ‘strong probability’ the remains were Brian’s.
He said: “The probability is strong that it is Brian’s remains but we are going to wait for the forensic results to come in to verify that.”
Earlier, the Sarasota County Medical Examiner and a cadaver dog were called to a Florida park where authorities found several items belonging to Laundrie.
His parents told the FBI and North Port Police Department last night that they intended to come to the park to help look for him, family attorney Steven Bertolino said.
Mr Bertolino said that police and Laundrie’s parents met at the park this morning and after a “brief search” off a trail their son frequented they found “some articles” belonging to him.
Mr Bertolino added that police are now conducting a more thorough investigation of that area.
Gabby, 22, was last seen on August 27 when she apologized to restaurant staff after Laundrie argued with them.
Several days later, Laundrie returned to Florida on September 1 without Gabby.
Her family reported her missing on September 11.
After a widespread search for her, the social media influencer’s remains were found in a remote area in Wyoming, US, on September 19.
Her death was ruled a homicide.
