Jude Bellingham has continued to emerge into a star having moved for Borussia Dortmund just over a year ago and seasoned defender Mats Hummels has made his feelings clear on the teenager
Borussia Dortmund veteran Mats Hummels has hailed Jude Bellingham as a leader despite his tender age.
The teenage sensation has enjoyed a rapid rise having moved to the German side from Birmingham just over a year ago.
Manchester United were among those keen on adding Bellingham when he left St Andrews’, but he opted for the Bundesliga.
At Dortmund Bellingham has become a leading light, playing with a maturity beyond his years as he establishes himself as a regular.
Hummels, himself a World Cup winner, has played alongside some class acts at Dortmund and Bayern Munich during his career.
And he has heaped major praise on Bellingham with his latest comments.
“He is the most mature 18-year-old player I have ever seen,” the defender told DAZN.
“Jude is already someone who leads the way and he’s also one of the loudest in the team.
“He’s a great kid, I think I’ve told him about 25 times now that I just love him.”
Bellingham made 46 appearances last term for Dortmund, scoring four times including in the Champions League against Manchester City.
Those performances earned him England recognition and he was part of Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2020 squad.
That has allowed him to play alongside Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson.
Bellingham is linked with a switch to Anfield and the Reds midfielder has made his feelings on the teenager very clear.
“He’s a fantastic player,” Henderson said recently.
Will Jude Bellingham end up in the Premier League next season? Comment below.
“Even at such a young age he shows fantastic maturity on and off the field. You can see how hungry he is to be a top player and has all the attributes to do that.
“I was trying to help as much as I could but to be honest he is a top player who has shown that in the big games for Dortmund. I see him going from strength to strength all the time.
“I don’t want to praise him too much and put too much pressure on him but he has a very good head on his shoulders, I’m told he has good people around him and a good family, and you can see that is an important part of him. I think he will be a top player going forward.”

United remain in pole position to sign Bellingham should he leave Dortmund, reports the Sun.
A host of their Premier League rivals are also keen but their previous efforts to sign him have made a lasting impression on the player and his family.
A source said: “United may have lost out last year when he moved to Germany, but the ground work they put in has made a lasting impression on Jude and his family.
“They were really impressed with the effort United made and the respect they were shown by everyone at the club.”
