Kalvin Phillips has become an integral player for Leeds United in recent years, but now the England midfielder is being linked with a move to rivals Manchester United
Kalvin Phillips’ agent and Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa appear to be on the same page about a potential transfer to Manchester United.
England midfielder Phillips has been linked with a big-money switch to Old Trafford in January in recent days.
The 25-year-old was a standout star at Euro 2020 for the Three Lions, having impressed in his first season in the Premier League with Leeds.
And now it seems he is being tipped for a move to one of the world’s biggest clubs in United.
The Red Devils are said to have stepped up their interest in Phillips over the last few days.
But the players’ agent Kevin Sharp has played down any rumours that he would be interested in a move to Leeds’ bitter rivals United.
“I can only see a positive outcome,” Sharp said. “Kalvin’s desire is to stay at Leeds and there is a real willingness from all sides to make it happen,” he told the Telegraph.
Sharp also told the I earlier this year: “Before Kalvin signed his last contract, we had good interest so we sat down and explored all the pros and cons. His desire was never to leave, it was to be rewarded and stay and play for the team he supported as a kid.
Will Kalvin Phillips ever leave Leeds? Comment down below
“Within the contract he signed in September 2019, we included provisions within it for if Leeds reached the Premier League, so it’s all set up for the top flight.”
That seems to be completely in line with an update from Phillips’ eccentric manager Bielsa, who insists that he would never do anything to harm his reputation with the club.
Bielsa said: “I’m sure the day he leaves Leeds and the way that he does it, far from provoking disappointment – of course it will generate disappointment – but it’s going to solidify his link to the club, the people and the city.
“I’m sure he would only leave if it’s guaranteed that the link to the place where he was born remains intact. He will know how to do it.”
And when asked if he was confident Phillips would stay, Bielsa replied: “That’s a question Kalvin needs to answer. Of course for us he’s a very valuable player. We have to adapt ourselves to how he feels belonging to Leeds.”
Bielsa went on to wax lyrical about the way Phillips conducts himself and his love for Leeds.
“I have seen in him the conduct I have very rarely seen in a player,” the Argentine continued.
“In how football is right now, for a player to decline a team above the level where he is at, due to the love of a club where he is at, is not frequent.
“I have the certainty Kalvin is going to enjoy for the rest of his life decisions like the one he made. He will be loved for always in the place he was born and where he belongs.”
