Klopp may pull plug on Bellingham transfer due to unofficial transfer policy

Liverpool are among those linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund’s wonderkid Jude Bellingham but Jurgen Klopp could be ready to cool the Reds’ interest in the midfielder

Norwich 0-3 Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp reaction

Jurgen Klopp could yet back out of pursuing Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham.

The young midfielder has enjoyed a rapid rise since bursting onto the scene with Birmingham City.

He has continued to blossom in Germany having joined Dortmund, with his talents being showcased on the Champions League stage.

That has attracted attention from several of the Premier League’s leading lights, one being Liverpool.

Klopp though has been reluctant to poach players from Dortmund, according to Bild.

The German coach won two Bundesliga titles with the club and guided them to a European Cup final.

He retains a strong relationship with the club and has preferred not to sign their best players.

Liverpool’s only major signing in the summer was defender Ibrahima Konate, but many felt they needed to add new faces further up the field.

Bellingham has received high praise from Reds skipper Jordan Henderson, who has seen him close up with England.

“He’s a fantastic player,” he said recently.

“Even at such a young age he shows fantastic maturity on and off the field. You can see how hungry he is to be a top player and has all the attributes to do that.

“I was trying to help as much as I could but to be honest he is a top player who has shown that in the big games for Dortmund. I see him going from strength to strength all the time.

“I don’t want to praise him too much and put too much pressure on him but he has a very good head on his shoulders.”

If Bellingham is to move to England Manchester United will also be keen having previously made moves to sign the teenager.

The Sun claims they remain in pole position having made a lasting impression on the player.

A source said: “United may have lost out last year when he moved to Germany, but the ground work they put in has made a lasting impression on Jude and his family.

Jurgen Klopp would rather not raid his former club

“They were really impressed with the effort United made and the respect they were shown by everyone at the club.

“Meeting Sir Alex Ferguson was the icing on the cake.

“Ultimately as Jude has made clear since, he decided to move to the club where he could see he would play games straight away and gain top level experience week in, week out.

“United couldn’t offer that, but his memories from that day and the interactions he had with the club are extremely fond ones. United did everything right so maybe in the future that will work in their favour.”
