Liverpool’s pre-season preparations are underway after Jurgen Klopp and Co. arrived in Austria for their training camp.
On the agenda are a gruelling fitness schedule and friendly matches against Mainz – Klopp’s old team – and Hertha Berlin later this month.
Ahead of their encounters with the two Bundesliga clubs, the Reds will also take on Austrian outfit Wacker Innsbruck and German side Stuttgart in 30-minute matches behind closed doors.
Klopp will be raring to put his team through their paces, although his squad remains largely unchanged with Ibrahima Konate the only addition so far.
That may be about to change, however, with the Reds reportedly handed boosts in pursuit of two midfield targets, while there is also an encouraging update on Mohamed Salah.
Here is Wednesday’s Liverpool transfer round-up.
Reds make Salah progress
In a significant update on Mohamed Salah’s contract situation, Liverpool have reportedly entered talks with the Egyptian over a new deal.
Speaking in May, the prolific 29-year-old said Anfield chiefs were yet to talk to him about extending his deal, which will expire in 2023.
“No one is talking to me about that, so I can’t say much about that,” Salah told Sky Sports . “No one in the club is talking to me about anything so I do not know.”
But transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims negotiations are now underway, although talks are still said to be in their infancy.
“This [contract talks between Liverpool and Salah] is not at the final stages yet,” Romano told Anfield Watch . “They have been talking but nothing is advanced yet.”
Tielemans desparate for Merseyside move
Liverpool’s hopes of signing Youri Tielemans have been buoyed as the Leicester City midfielder is pushing to move to Anfield this summer.
That’s according to Voetbal24 in Tielemans’ native Belgium, which also claims the Foxes would part ways with the 24-year-old for an eye-watering fee of £64million.
The Reds have been linked with many midfielders across Europe following Georginio Wijnaldum’s departure, but Tielemans is believed to be a priority target.
The Belgium international scored the winner in Leicester’s FA Cup final triumph over Chelsea, capping an impressive two-and-a-half years at the King Power Stadium.
Liverpool handed Sanches boost
Should Liverpool fail in their reported pursuit of Youri Tielemans, they could turn to Lille midfielder Renato Sanches.
The Reds have been linked with the 23-year-old since his brilliant performances for Portugal at Euro 2020, which came after he helped Lille win the Ligue 1 title.
Jurgen Klopp’s side were said to be facing competition for Sanches’ signature from Barcelona, but the le10sport claims the Catalan giants cannot afford to sign him this summer.
The French outlet also says Lille are demanding €35million (£30m) for Sanches, who is contracted for two more years.
