Night Stalker rapist was suspected of being paedophile after reign of terror

Exclusive:

Delroy Grant was jailed for at least 27 years in 2011 after 17-year reign of terror which saw old people in Southeast England living in fear of going to bed at night

Delroy Grant was convicted of being one of the most prolific and depraved sex attackers in British history

The Night Stalker rapist who targeted pensioners was grilled by police over sex attacks on children.

Delroy Grant was suspected of being a paedophile in the same year he was arrested after a 17-year reign of terror in which OAPs were assaulted in their beds at night.

Our revelation comes ahead of new ITV drama Manhunt, which is based on Grant’s horrific story.

He was tracked down by DCI Colin Sutton – the same detective who caught serial killer Levi Bellfield, the beast who murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler.

Grant’s child sex interrogation emerged as we uncovered full details of the amount of legal aid he got.

Authorities revealed that Jamaica-born Grant, now 64, was awarded £1,926 when he was interviewed about “sexual offences and associated offences against children” at a police station in 2009.

That year he was held in connection with more than 100 sex attacks on OAP in South East London, Kent and Surrey dating back to 1992. But he was never charged with any child sex offences.

A further £164,000 in legal aid was awarded to Grant’s defence team to cover adult crimes.

DCI Sutton, now retired, believes Grant, is responsible for more than 200 crimes against old people.

The rapist was finally caught in a three-year police operation after DCI Sutton was asked to review the case following the failure of a DNA samples operation focusing on 30,000 possible suspects in South East London.

It ended when officers pulled Grant over in his Vauxhall Zafira. He was jailed for at least 27 years in 2011.
