Paul Gascoigne keen for I’m a Celeb stint despite tears on Italian reality show

Paul Gascoigne is eager to be signed up for this year’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

The former footballer, 53, spent more than five weeks living in a makeshift camp in Belize for Italian reality show, L’Isola dei Famosi or Celebrity Island – but he was forced to quit after dislocating his shoulder.

But the experience hasn’t deterred him, and in fact it seems to have unleashed his inner Bear Grylls.

He told The Sun : “I did five weeks on an Italian island so I can do three weeks with Ant and Dec in the jungle. I’d love to do the British version.

The Italian series sees the celebrities surviving off 50g of rice a day, coconuts, fish they catch, and other food won in challenges, similar to Bushtucker Trials.

When he left the show for medical reasons, he said that it brought back memories of England’s World Cup near miss.

He said: “I cried as much as I did after we lost the 1990 World Cup semi-final against Germany. I felt I had let my country down again as I hadn’t won for England.”

Last month, we revealed that And and Dec have to wait until September to hear whether I’m a Celeb can return to Australia as hoped.

ITV bosses have confirmed that the plan is to take the hit jungle show back to its natural home on the other side of the world after it was relocated to Wales last year due to the pandemic.

One insider said: “Everyone is keen to get back Down Under this year but, of course, it depends on what the Australian authorities will allow.

“We won’t know for sure if we can get back to the Gold Coast until the start of autumn, when things will be much clearer. Until then, it’s a waiting game.”

Some of the rumoured campers for the 2021 series include Nadiya Hussein, Drag Race star The Vivienne, The Chase’s Mark ‘The Beast’ Labbett, and tough footballer Roy Keane.

But Gazza’s dream campmate would be someone he already knows, his Euro 96 England squad teammate Jamie Redknapp, 47.

He said: “I played against Jamie once and I gave him a bit of a kick and he came up to me and said ‘what did you do that for ? I love you’ I just said don’t be so soft it was only a little tap but we are good now.”

Jamie was one of the three players who helped Gazza perform a goal celebration inspired by the infamous ‘Dentist’s Chair’ drinking scandal.

Mimicking the boozy antics that took place in a pre-Euros team tour in Hong Kong, Gazza lay on his back, arms and legs akimbo as Jamie and two other players squirted water all over his face.

Makes you wonder how they’d celebrate bringing home ten stars for camp, doesn’t it?
