After a heartbreaking few months, the royal family has something to celebrate following the happy news that Princess Beatrice and her husband Edo are expecting their first child.
The couple tied the knot in a Covid-restricted wedding last summer with just a handful of guests, including her grandparents the Queen and Prince Philip, after their original plans were cancelled due to the pandemic.
The happy couple decided to announce their royal baby news in the traditional way, via an official statement from Buckingham Palace.
It read: “Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are very pleased to announce that they are expecting a baby in autumn of this year.
“The Queen has been informed and both families are delighted with the news.”
Her traditional approach is very different to how her sister, Princess Eugenie, and cousin Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle announced their pregnancies – who opted for a more modern approach in place of the normal royal way.
Eugenie and husband Jack shared their news on social media, sharing a very modern announcement style photo on the royal’s popular page.
It showed the couple’s hands holding a pair of adorable baby booties.
It was captioned: “Jack and I are so excited for early 2021….”
There was also an official announcement from the Palace, which read: “Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank are very pleased to announce that they are expecting a baby in early 2021.
“The Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York, Mr and Mrs George Brooksbank, The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh are delighted with the news.”
Meghan and Harry also used a photo to tell the world they were expecting their second child.
They shared a beautiful black and white photo, taken by their friend Misan Harriman, which showed off the Duchess’s beautiful bump.
She is laying with her head in Harry’s lap, staring up at him lovingly.
Sharing the photo on social media, Misan wrote: “Meg, I was there at your wedding to witness this love story begin, and my friend, I am honoured to capture it grow.
“Congratulations to The Duke and Duchess of Sussex on this joyous news!”
Confirming the news, a spokesman for the couple said: “We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother.
“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child.”
