Freddy Marks made his final appearance on television just months before his tragic death at the age of 71.
The television presenter, best known for appearing on the kids’ show Rainbow, starred on BBC’s Pointless Celebrities in February 2021.
In the celebrity special, Freddy appeared in high spirits as he competed alongside his wife and co-star, Jane Tucker.
Dressed in a black blazer and jumper, the television presenter looked dapper as he competed for a shot at winning the pot for charity. The duo were up against fellow kids’ TV duos s Peter Purves, Lesley Judd, Dave Benson Phillips, Mike Read, Kirsten O’Brien and Terrence Hardiman in the February episode.
However, it appears that the comedy duo failed to make it very far in the series and were swiftly sent home.
Freddy’s appearance came just months before it was confirmed that the presenter had sadly died.
The news was announced on a Rainbow Facebook group early today, with fans of the children’s show flocking to the comment section to express their sadness.
The statement read: “It is with a heavy heart that we sad to say that “Freddy Marks” from Rod, Jane and Freddy has sadly passed away yesterday. Freddy was a very talented and funny guy who always bought a smile to everybody’s face.
“Our thoughts go out to his wife Jane Tucker, Rod Burton and all thier friends and family at this difficult time. Freddy will be greatly missed.”
Production company Thames TV also penned a heartfelt tribute as they confirmed that Freddy had passed away. A cause of death has not yet been revealed.
The Cheshire-born star shot to fame when he appeared as part of the musical trio, Rod, Jane and Freddy in kid’s TV from the 1970s to the 1990s. He had also previously toured with several bands and enjoyed roles in several stage productions such as The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Freddy had also begun dating his co-star Jane after meeting on the show and the pair enjoyed a 30-year romance before they decided to finally get married. Their romance initially hit headlines after it was revealed the blonde had previously been married to their other colleague – Rod.
The couple, who would have celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary this weekend, were pictured with beaming smiles as they said their vows in 2016 at the luxury Claridge’s hotel in London. In the snaps taken of the ceremony, Freddy opted for a floral blazer as he held hands with his wife, that was dressed in a white pant suit.
The television duo received several messages of congratulations from their famous friends at the time, with Denise Welch being one of the first to wish them well.
